M. Night Shyamalan has developed quite a following among movie lovers. Having directed 14 feature films since 1992 (some hot, some not), you can’t deny that the mere mention of his name triggers a response. Whether that response is excitement or eye rolls ultimately depends on the viewer. Either way, when the seed is planted, intrigue starts to bloom.
In Shyamalan’s upcoming film Knock at the Cabin, Andrew (Jonathan Groff) and Eric (Ben Aldridge) are on a family vacation with their daughter, Wen (Kristen Cui), when they get a strange knock at the door. They’re then taken hostage by Leonard (Dave Bautista) and his armed crew, who believe they have been chosen to save humanity. The cost of salvation is high and requires the captured family to make an outrageous decision before everything is lost.
This apocalyptic, psychological thriller is based on the horror novel “The Cabin at the End of the World” by Paul Tremblay. Adapted by Shyalaman from a draft by Steve Desmond and Michael Sherman, this is the first of Tremblay’s works to make it to the big screen. While the book received notable praise in 2019, winning the Horror Writers Association’s Bram Stoker Award for Novel, we’ll keep our expectations neutral for the film. However, considering this cast will also include the talents of Rupert Grint, Nikki Amuka-Bird, and Abby Quinn, those expectations may shift slightly. We’ll find out when Knock at the Cabin hits theaters on February 3, 2023.
