Emily (Phoebe Dynevor; Bridgerton) and Luke (Alden Ehrenreich; Solo: A Star Wars Story) are madly in love and newly engaged after being together for two years. However, they can’t show any affection at work due to a strict no-fraternization policy at their hedge fund employer. The couple prematurely celebrates when Emily overhears that Luke may be up for promotion. However, dynamics shift when Emily is promoted instead, and the threads of their relationship and personal lives begin to unravel.
Fair Play is the debut feature of writer-director Chloe Domont. This psychological relationship thriller is one that keeps you engaged from start to finish. The script is smart and sharp, holding nothing back. The traditional ideas of gender dynamics are boldly challenged as our lead characters navigate their new reality. Dynevor and Ehrenreich are both fantastic in their roles, but it’s Ehrenreich that really stands out. His performance as Luke commands your attention as you watch him evolve under the pressure of ambition. The tension is palpable and does not let up, leaving you worn out and so very impressed when the end credits roll.
