It’s a glorious day in Barbie Land as we’re finally getting a trailer that reveals the plot of Greta Gerwig’s highly anticipated film.
Every day in Barbie Land is bright and shiny until Barbie seems to have an existential crisis.
When Barbie, played by the lively Margot Robbie, starts to wonder about things un-Barbie-like, strange things happen. Her perfectly arched feet are now gulp flat!
So she seeks the wisdom of what we can assume is an all-knowing Barbie, played by Kate McKinnon, who urges Barbie to go to the “real world” to uncover the truth about the universe.
As she starts her road trip and begins to belt out her car karaoke, she finds that Ken has snuck into the backseat to accompany her on her quest. Shortly after arriving in the real world, the two somehow find themselves arrested, just one of the many humorous situations they will likely encounter during their escapades.
In addition to the trailer, Warner Bros. also released details about the movie’s soundtrack, which features songs from stars of the film, including co-lead Ryan Gosling, Dua Lipa, as well as Lizzo, Haim, Tame Impala, Ice Spice, Dominic Fike, Charli XCX, and more.
Alongside the trailer, Warner Bros. has released insight into the movie’s soundtrack. Fans can anticipate a star-studded lineup of songs from the film’s cast, including co-lead Ryan Gosling, Dua Lipa, as well as Lizzo, Haim, Tame Impala, Ice Spice, Dominic Fike, Charli XCX, and many other talented artists.
Gerwig also co-wrote the film alongside partner Noah Baumbach. With its meticulously crafted set design, stunning costumes, and an ensemble cast featuring the likes of Issa Rae, Ncuti Gatwa, Nicola Coughlan, Simu Liu, Hari Nef, Michael Cera, and Kingsley Ben-Adir, this film is poised to become one of the summer’s most highly anticipated releases.
The movie will release in theaters on July 21.
