Even hitmen need vacations, right? That is the theme of the Bob Odenkirk-led action film Nobody 2. In 2021, Nobody received a good critical reception and went on to become a solid little box office hit for Universal Pictures. Of course, like any movie that makes money in Hollywood, it must be followed up with a sequel (insert sarcasm). After watching the original, I didn’t think we required a sequel, but after watching the sequel, I think we need about ten more.
What makes Hutch Mansell (Bob Odenkirk; Better Call Saul) so relatable is the fact that he is trying to balance work and family. Mansell set the Russian’s money on fire, putting him over $30 million in debt with the wrong people. As a result, he is working nonstop to pay off the debt, which is causing his wife, Becca Mansell (Connie Nielsen; Gladiator II), to lose patience with him. All the frustration leads Hutch to decide that he is going to take his family to Plummerville, a vacation spot that his father took him to as a kid, filled with theme park rides.

As with anything in Hutch’s life, he can’t seem to keep himself out of trouble. After a security guard decides to touch his daughter, he decides to let the demon within snap and beat up everyone. One thing leads to another, and Hutch finds himself amid the corrupt theme park operator, the sheriff, and a crime boss with a thirst for blood.
I had all the doubts in the world about whether we really needed a Nobody 2, but if I am being honest, I thought this was much better than what we saw out of John Wick 4 and even Ballerina. Odenkirk’s persona as Hutch is relatable in a way that makes him likable. He wants to do good by his family, but has that Dexter-like dark passenger that sends him off the rails. Within the role, Odenkirk seems to be having the time of his life, whether it was within the hand-to-hand combat or the high-octane action sequences that filled the third act.

Timo Tjahjanto, known for his work on the action film The Shadow Strays, took over for IIya Naishuller to direct the sequel. His keen eye for shooting action movies is quite noticeable with how things played out. While there are multiple scenes you can point out where his work behind the camera stands out, there is a sequence on the duck boat that might be the best shot action sequence of 2025. The entire third act is shot within the theme park, and Tjahjanto and his crew brought the action beautifully.
Speaking of the theme park, I LOVE when movies are set within theme parks and they use the oddities about them. Throughout the third act, we are following so many unique and crazy kill sequences using every ride and game imaginable to neutralize the enemies. It reminded me of Beverly Hills Cop III and the use of Wonder World. Odenkirk, John Ortiz, and Christopher Lloyd were all great within this entire shot.

Formidable villains are hard to come by in films anymore. What started as the Colin Hanks show ended with the Sharon Stone show. My only bone to pick with the film was the lack of seeing Sharon Stone more within her portrayal of Lendina. I loved her off-kilter, wild, and outlandish approach to the role that showcased a fun side of Stone. If we had introduced her a little earlier and allowed her to play a part from the beginning, this could’ve been a little more fun.
Ultimately, Nobody 2 is not only one of the best action movies of the year, but it also surpasses the original. With the crisp runtime of an hour and a half, Bob Odenkirk and company having the time of their lives, and Timo Tjahjanto’s fantastic direction, you can’t ask for a better movie to check out on the big screen. If you enjoyed the original film, go check this out on the big screen and support it so we can get about three more of these.
Nobody 2 hits theaters on August 15.
